Next up on burgeoning Bristolian drum and bass stronghold Sixteen Step comes one of their highest-profile signings yet in the form of “Industrial” / “Disrupt”, the label debut from Buckinghamshire-based producer M:Pathy.

Residing in Vienna, the emergent DJ/producer has found himself fast on the rise, with his recent oeuvre on Lost Recordings, IN:DEEP Music and Engage Audio among other labels solidifying his status as one of the scene’s brightest new talents. For his latest drop, he taps two fellow relative newcomers – promising wordsmith Fate and fellow beatmaker J-DOK – for a pair of sublime collaborations.

“Industrial” lives up to its name, its whirring mechanics and flitting percussion culminating in knocking, minimal drops anchored on percussive impacts and murmuring sub-bass. Skipping atop the instrumental with ease, Fate lays down a plethora of confessional lyrics about his illicit efforts to make ends meet by any means, ruminating on his financial hustles. The J-DOK co-production “Disrupt”, meanwhile, is a breezier number, with silky Rhodes chords and reversed pads nestled in amongst its cavernous basslines and fluttering breaks—showcasing another string to M:Pathy’s bow. Also included on the release is the instrumental mix of “Industrial”, no doubt a useful tool in the arsenal of DJs and appreciators alike.
